Walter Savage Landor was an English writer, poet, and activist. The critical acclaim he received from contemporary poets and reviewers was not matched by public popularity. As remarkable as his work was, it was equaled by his rumbustious character and lively temperament. - Summary by Wikipedia

composition; it was first published no later than 1839 (MDCCCXXXIX, per the title page), when it appeared in a collection called "The Jewel" edited by Thomas Sloper, published by Richard Groombridge of London (and available online via Google, pp.210-11 of that edition).
